I know, it looks like a chimney cupboard but if you see the dimensions you'll understand better about its intended function. Entirely handcrafted from beautiful Iowa butternut on the case and frame; back and shelves are made from reclaimed white pine taken from the side of a shed to be torn down. I love these woods as they are compatible and sadly, the butternut is blighted in many parts of the U.S., much like elm, so using lumber cut from trees that are diseased and blending it with reclaimed lumber seems to have a greener footprint for me at least. There are many features to this cupboard - 24" wide, 78" tall, top is nine inches deep (7" deep actual surface, bottom is 16" deep (13 3/4" actual). Shelves are spaced 7 1/2" apart meaning they just fit DVD's and Video game packs. Bottom is deep enough (and door is wide enough) to slide your X-box onto the bottom shelf - back cutouts for cables and electrical cords.

All of this in a hand crafted cupboard in the best New England tradition. Design adapted from a lovely New England cupboard I once owned with a hand punched panel I did about thirty years ago on salvaged tin. As with all my work, there are hand cut joints, top board to side boards are dovetailed for strength, door is mortise and tenon joined with walnut pegs, frame is put together with the best quality wood screws overcovered with walnut pegs to give a hand pegged look.

Behind the door is a concealed drawer, all hand dovetailed and just perfectly sized for wireless game controllers, remotes and spare cables.

Other fine edge features are antique beaded edge along the inner openings to the shelves, and a simple molding around the upper case to substitute for a cornice to keep the design simple

The whole piece is finished in natural butternut, a very beautiful wood made prettier in the all the butternut came from the same tree. There are three coats of hand applied oil/poly and a final hand applied coat of hard paste wax.

Can be made in other dimensions, stains, woods, and door panel styles (tin, raised, raised center pane with reveal)
